Royal Barry Wills established his architectural practice focusing on single family residential designs which drew upon traditional architecture such as, Tudor, French Provincial and most notably, several forms of early American architecture including the Cape Cod cottage in particular, with which he is most closely identified.

Royal Barry Wills receives a Gold Medal from President Hoover for his home design which was recognized as the winning entry in the Better Homes in America Small House Competition.

1938

Life Magazine selected traditional architects and modern architects to design homes for families of varying incomes. The magazine chose Royal Barry Wills and Frank Lloyd Wright to prepare a home design for a family with a $5000 to $6000 income. The family chose and built the house designed by Royal Barry Wills.
